Alvin Joseph Myers

December 24, 1928 ~ July 7, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Alvin J. Myers, 87, of Monroeville passed away early Thursday morning, July 7, 2016 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born on December 24, 1928 in the same house in Monroeville that he passed in.  Alvin was a lifelong dedicated farmer, school bus driver and drove truck for Pat Riley and Scheid Trucking prior to his retirement.  He had also served as a Sherman Township Trustee for 18 years, where he was involved with the fire department before the Huron River Fire District was formed. Alvin was instrumental in forming the Huron River Joint Fire District in 1986 and served as President for many years. He also worked hard getting the new fire station built and was always proud and supportive of the fire district. 

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Bellevue Eagles, Moose Lodge, American Legion in Norwalk and the Huron County Farm Bureau. Alvin loved spending time with his family and enjoyed friends stopping over for a drink with him.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years and the love of his life, the former Helen Siesel, whom he married on April 13, 1950 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville; three children, Brenda (Ken) Landoll, Elaine (Terry) Fitzgerald and Ron (Sue) Myers, all of Monroeville; seven grandchildren, Chad (Billie Joe) Welter, Laura (Troy) Baxter, Shawn (Shelley) Fitzgerald, Jody (Craig) Hampton, Monica (Keith) Wright, Anthony (Deb) Myers, Adam (Dannielle) Myers and thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Anna (Brown) Myers and one sister, Mary Ann.

Friends may call Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 2-6:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, where the rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM Sunday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, July 11, 2016 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Ronald Schock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Endowment Fund, 79 Chapel Street, Monroeville, Ohio 44847.
