William "Bill" Gilbert Stang

William “Bill” G. Stang, 92, of Monroeville passed away Thursday May 5, 2022, in the Admiral’s Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Huron.

He was born August 11, 1929, in Monroeville, Ohio and worked on the Stang family farm for five years prior to joining the service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. After returning home from the service, Bill was self-employed as a general contractor for over sixty years.

He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Norwalk and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville. He was a member of the Monroeville American Legion, VFW in Norwalk, AMVETS in Sandusky, Norwalk Eagles, Catholic War Veterans of Sandusky, and had served on numerous building committees over the years. He was also a former Monroeville School Board member for eight years and a former Peru Township Trustee. Bill’s hobbies included woodworking, gardening, boating, fishing, and always helped the kids with projects and was happy to tell them how to do it.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Felecia M. Bauer; two children, Joan (Russell) Smith and Bonnie (Bret) Gfell, both of Monroeville; eight grandchildren, thirteen and soon to be fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald “Shorty” Stang and Norbert (Grace) Stang, both of Monroeville; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlon and Ruth (Rossman) Stang; his daughter, Sharon Miller; six siblings, Kenneth “Bud” Stang, Charles Stang, Betty Myers, Frederick “Fritz” Stang, Maryann Tullos, and Sue Johnson.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday, May 8, 2022, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, May 9, 2022, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Road, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Fr. Chris Jesudhason will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery.
