The Lord welcomed our loving Virginia Sue Scheid into His open arms on Sunday, January 25, 2026, after a life filled with faith, family, and quiet strength.
She was born on December 2, 1938, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to George A. and Etta A. Johnson. Sue graduated from Sandusky High School in 1957 and went on to build a life centered on love, service, and devotion to those around her.
On February 11, 1961, Sue married the love of her life, Earl William Scheid, in a union that spanned nearly 60 years until his passing in 2020. Together, they shared a deep devotion to family, daily Euchre games (especially during her visits with him in the memory care unit at the VA in Sandusky), and unwavering support for one another through life's joys and challenges.
Sue was a devoted member of both Zion Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sandusky. She lived her faith through quiet acts of kindness and was cherished by her community.
An avid baker, she loved making pies and cakes but specialized in creating over 36 different types of Christmas cookies each year, delighting family and friends with her homemade treats.
She valued time with family—whether playing cards, sharing stories, or just being there for those she loved.
Sue is survived by her son, Gregory Paul (Tracy) Scheid of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Hannah (Luke) Chapman of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Matthew Scheid of Sharonville, Ohio; her sisters, Joyce Christoff of Sandusky, Ohio, Judy Emley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kim Johnson of Marblehead, Ohio; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale (Sharon) Scheid of Monroeville, Ohio; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl William Scheid (2020); their infant daughter, Jill Marie Scheid; and her parents, George A. and Etta A. Johnson.
Visitation for Sue will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Parkvue Community, 3800 Boardwalk Blvd., Sandusky, Ohio, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will take place following the memorial service, also at Parkvue.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Ohio on Friday morning.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stein Hospice (Sandusky, Ohio) or United Church Homes, Benevolent Care, 170 East Center Street, Marion, Ohio 43302.
Sue's legacy of love, resilience, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
