Stanley Stewart Obituary

Stanley O. Stewart, 75, of Sandusky passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday morning, May 13, 2022, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Born on June 12, 1946 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Willard and Helen (Hartley) Stewart of Fostoria, Ohio.

Stan graduated from Fostoria High School in 1964 then earned a bachelor’s degree from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. While out west, Stan was a drummer in a rock-n-roll band named the Blivits and a pitcher for the AAA affiliate team of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Stan moved to Sandusky in 1971 when he was hired by Erie County Family Courts. In his 35 years of working for the court system, Stan served as a juvenile probation officer, bailiff, and court administrator.

He was a member of First Christian Church and a past member of the Perkins Kiwanis Club. He also served as a board member for Bayshore Counseling and was a member of the Perkins Athletic Booster Club.

Athletics were always a passion of Stan’s and a large part of his life. He began volunteering at Perkins in 1973 with the football program as a statistician. In 1978, he also began keeping the scorebook for the girls basketball program. He eventually kept the scorebook for both the girls and boys teams and was also a starter for the track team. Stan was hired by the Sandusky Bay Conference in 1985 and served as their secretary/treasurer until 2016.

The biggest reward for the work that Stan did was the time he spent with the students and coaches of Perkins High School. He enjoyed every minute that he spent on the fields and in the gyms and press boxes throughout the SBC. Stan’s service and dedication have been recognized with an Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Honor Award in 2019 and through induction into the Perkins Hall of Fame in 2020.

Stan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen (Gildenmeister); daughters, Pamela (Patrick) Wallenhorst of Cleveland and Sandra Stewart of Norwalk; grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Wallenhorst of Cleveland; brother, Glenn (Joyce) Stewart of Forsyth, Montana; and sister-in-law Rita Stewart of Billings, Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leroy Stewart.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 and at 9:30 AM until the time of funeral service at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in the First Christian Church 3410 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky. Rev. Kenny Thomas will be officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
