Rita A. (Houck) Bishop

Rita A. Bishop, 90, of Willard passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, in The Willows at Willard surrounded by her family.

She was born October 26, 1933, in Monroeville and was a 1951 graduate of Bellevue High School. Rita was employed as a rural mail carrier in Monroeville many years ago, but primarily worked alongside her husband and family on the farm.

She was a member of the former St. Sebastian Catholic Church and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville. Rita was also a member of the Huron County Farm Bureau, a 50 year 4-H Advisor in Huron County, a Cub Scout leader, a member of the Agricultural Heritage Society of Huron County and was a former children’s advocate for Huron County CASA. Her hobbies included playing piano, singing, sewing, the outdoors, volunteering for church activities, and enjoyed going to garage sales with her grandsons.

She is survived by one daughter, Ellen A. Schwab of Willard; one son, Gregory F. Bishop of San Diego, CA; two grandsons, Jacob P. Schwab of Monroeville and Samuel F. Schwab of Sunbury, OH; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Bishop in 1997; her parents, Julius and Eleanor (Missler) Houck; one son-in-law, John Schwab; and one brother, Albert Houck.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Father Chris Jesudhason will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue. A luncheon will be held at the St. Sebastian Community Center following the burial.
