Neil J. Schlachter

Neil J. Schlachter, 72, of Monroeville died Thursday evening, December 10, 2020 surrounded by his family from complications associated with COVID-19.

He was born March 5, 1948 and lived in Oxford Township, Monroeville, Ohio to Walter and Margaret (Cooper) Schlachter.  He married the love of his life Mary Ellen (Boose) Schlachter on March 17, 1971 in Norwalk, Ohio.

He was a 1966 graduate of Monroeville High School.  He worked as a successful farmer for 50 years and raised corn, wheat, and soybeans.  Most of his farming career was spent with his son and father farming their own land in Erie and Huron counties.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post 547.  He enjoyed the countryside, playing cards, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland sports, and most of all, spending time with his grandson, Tristan.

Neil is survived by one daughter, Elissa (Joseph) Heal of Bellevue, one son, Brendan (Laura) Schlachter of Monroeville; one grandson, Tristan Schlachter of Monroeville; one brother, Col. David (Ann) Schlachter of Niceville, Florida; one sister, Jane (Steve) Moore of Wooster, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law James and Mary Lou (Moomaw) Boose.
