Matthew F. Harp, Jr., 86, of Sandusky passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born February 13, 1935, in Sandusky to Matthew and Dorothy (Fitzthum) Harp, Sr. Matthew attended the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic Schools where he played football on a Hall of Fame team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1957-1959. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Sandusky where he worked at the former Hinde and Dauch Company, retiring from the City of Sandusky with 36 years of service.
Matthew was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 83, VFW Post 2529, and the AMVETS Post 17. His hobbies included Tai Chi and Amateur Radio.
He is survived by three children, Amy Keller of Gainesville, FL, Jeffrey (Jennifer Bayler) Harp, and Kelly Harp, both of Sandusky; grandchildren, Andrew (Savannah) Keller and Seth (Dominque) Harp; one great granddaughter, Sophia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2012, Judith R. (Fox) Harp; his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Father Zach Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
