Mary M. “Molly” Nye, 97, of Sandusky passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at her residence.
She was born November 16, 1923 in Frazeysburg, Ohio and was a 1942 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. Molly attended the University of Toledo and was a graduate of Newark School of Nursing, Newark, Ohio. She moved to Sandusky in 1952 and started her nursing career in private duty. Throughout her career in Sandusky, Molly had worked for the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Providence Hospital, and Memorial Hospital. Prior to retirement in 1984, Molly became an instructor of nursing with the Sandusky City Schools and the former Memorial Hospital. She had participated in the Nurse Health Study from Hartford and received a certificate from the Red Cross.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she had held numerous positions on the church council. She was a member of the Ohio Nursing Alumni of Newark, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Good Sam’s Camping Club, Chapter #23, Order of Eastern Stars in Newark, and the former Blind Support Group.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Frederick) Kaufman of Etna, Ohio and Martha (Tim) Sprouse of Sandusky; six grandchildren, Amber (Steven Sorrell) Campbell, Steven (Melissa) Kaufman, Frederick “Freddie” (Misti) Kaufman, II, Joe (Shannon) Kaufman, Mat (Heather) Kaufman, and Becky (Mike) Morrison; ten great grandchildren; and one sister, Marlene Walker of Melbourne, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Charlie” Nye in 1994; one son, Craig Nye; one grandson, Christopher Sprouse in infancy; mother and stepfather, Mary and James Crawford; father, John McKee; one brother, George Crawford; and three sisters, Helen Good, Patricia Ricter, and Susan Lamb.
Friends may call from 1:00 pm until time of funeral service at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 3, 2020 in the First Presbyterian Church, 265 Jackson Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Rev. Dr. Richard Henderson and Rev. Dr. Robert Bottoms will officiate. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery, Frazeysburg, Ohio.
