Marilyn Gravenhorst Obituary

Marilyn Ann (Hay) Gravenhorst, 71, passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer, on February 17, 2020 while surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 28, 1948 to Raymond John Hay and Edna Marie (Dick) Hay in Norwalk Ohio. Marilyn attended St. Sebastian's Grade School in Bismark and was a 1966 graduate of Attica High School. In September 1969, she married James Gravenhorst, and they recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Marilyn lived a full life as a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and was loved by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her life’s work as a homemaker, she also worked at White House in Bellevue, G.E. in Bellevue, Enchanted Mushroom in Monroeville, and also the Hen House in Norwalk.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. What Marilyn loved most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and grand fur-babies. She was a woman of faith and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, James Gravenhorst; her children, Larry (Chris) Gravenhorst, and Bob (Andrea) Gravenhorst of Monroeville; her daughter, Judy Gravenhorst of Roanoke, Indiana; along with her five grandchildren, Randie (Khye), Riley, Reece, Jayden, and Anthony. Marilyn is also survived by her brothers; Gerry (Mary) Hay of Norwalk, Jim (Kelly) Hay of Bellevue, her twin brother, Marvin (Theresa) Hay of Monroeville, and sister-in-law, Ruth Hay of Bellevue; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she held dear to her heart.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and brothers; Donald Hay in 1995; Richard Hay in 1992; Leonard Hay in 1968; and infant daughter, Mary Ann Gravenhorst in 1972.

The family would like to thank the Stein Hospice team for their loving care and making Marilyn feel comfortable during her illness.
