Joann Agnes (Gates) Showalter

Joann Agnes (Gates) Showalter, 86, of Monroeville passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, following a brief illness.

She was born to Raymond and Marie (Martin) Gates on May 28, 1940, in Havana, Ohio. She was a graduate of Attica High School. She married Faydean “Gus” Showalter on June 27, 1964. Jo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she had worked for many years. She loved gardening, baking, canning, and trips to Amish Country. She especially loved a cold Pepsi and a good doughnut.

She is survived by her daughters, Caroline (Mike) Cole and Shelley (Shawn) Fitzgerald; grandsons, Josh (Brandy) Mark and Jordan Cole, whom she was very proud; great grandson, Gage; and sisters, Sharon (Gerry) Ruffing and Bev (Ted) Thurston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus in 2018; sisters, Rose, Ruth, and Marilyn; brothers, John and Baby Boy Gates.

The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 am on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Patrick Gonyeau, C.PP.S. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
