James L. “Jamo” Meyer, 92, of Monroeville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in the Gaymont Nursing Center, Norwalk, following a brief illness.
He was born November 5, 1926 in Monroeville to Charles and Eda (Kessler) Meyer. Jamo was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from General Electric as a machine adjuster following 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, working at the Monroeville American Legion fish fry, playing cards, gardening, and was an avid Ohio and local sports fan. Jamo could always be found at Meyer Boats where he loved to extend an invite to family and friends to “come again”.
He is survived by his six children, Lynne Hemenway of Norwalk, Jill (Mike) Sitterly, Denise (Bill) Brooks, and Tam (Glen) Opper, all of Monroeville, Toby (Maurine Schmidt) Meyer of Collins, and Kris (Jim) Schaffer of Monroeville; fourteen grandchildren, Tina Shields, Dawn (Scott) Aronhalt, Eric (Stacey) Opper, Sandi (Clint) Poths, Kellie (Scott) Polito, Steve Sitterly, Joan (Ken) Cutcher, Betsy (Kevin) Rasnick, Tiffany (Caleb) Arnold, Craig Meyer, Taylor (Andrew) Devlin, Morgan Rarick, , Christoper Schaffer, and Courtney Schaffer, fourteen great grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Shields, Olivia and Alexandra Aronhalt, Emily Berry, Abbi and Kaci Poths, Anderson and Weston Polito, and Ella and Lane Arnold, Carson and Brysen Rasnick, Penelope Devlin; special buddy Nate Kradlak; one sister, Laetta Long; sister in law, Evelyn Ruffing, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jeanette B. Meyer; one grandson, Homer Shields, III; his parents, one brother, Harvey Meyer; and one sister, Alice “Shorty” Ruffing.
Friends may call from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, September 2, 2019 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A funeral mass will at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville.
