Helen M. (Upton) Smith

Helen M. Smith, 97, of Sandusky passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, in the Providence Care Center, Sandusky.

She was born June 22, 1925, in Sandusky and attended Sandusky High School. Helen had been employed at the former Medicine Shoppe. Prior to this, she had worked at the former S.S, Kresge Store. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky and was previously a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Melody Makers Choir and the Good Sam’s Camping Club, Chapter 23, and the Golden Girls monthly luncheon club.

She is survived by her husband Donald Lee Smith, whom she married on March 6, 1971; her children, Sandra Lee Timm of Norwalk, Thomas (Debra) Timm of Sandusky, Cathy Ballas of Flowery Branch, GA, Jeff Smith of Norwalk, Chris (Nancy) Smith of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith of Sandusky; fourteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Timm in 1965; her parents, Grover and Adelia (Baumeister) Upton; one son, Donald Kevin Smith; one brother, Richard Upton; and one brother in infancy.

Friends may call from 12:30 pm until time of funeral service at 1:30 pm Friday, July 1, 2022, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Deacon Carolyn M. Steinfeldt of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
