Edward Robert "Bob" Griffin

Edward Robert “Bob” Griffin, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake.

Bob was born on November 29, 1933, in Brighton, New York. He was a United States Navy veteran, proudly serving for four years. He was a proud business owner of Mr. Mat and was affectionately known to many as “Mr. Mat”. Bob was known throughout his life for his strong work ethic and independence.

He was a devout Catholic, and his faith was an important part of his life. He generously gave his time as a lecturer and volunteering for the Catholic church. Bob was a hardworking, fiercely independent man with an optimistic outlook on life. He rarely was without a big smile and genuinely enjoyed meeting people and making new friends.

He loved telling Dad jokes and finding reasons to make the people around him laugh.  A proud Western New Yorker, Bob was an enthusiastic Buffalo Bills fan and loved the New York Yankees.

Above all, he will be remembered for his faith, optimism, work ethic, independence, sense of humor, and the unmistakable smile he shared with the people around him.

He is survived by his children, Mary Beth (Alex) Gervais, Robert (Lynn) Griffin, Mark Griffin, John (Sue) Griffin, and Richard Griffin; his ten grandchildren, Bobby, Tim, Katie, Patrick, Nicole, Alex, Sarah, John, Grace, and Sophie; two great grandchildren, Wesley and Lenore; his former spouse, Mary Frances Griffin.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 8:30 am until 9:30 am on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, with prayers starting at 9:30 am. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Doug Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Ames Family Hospice House, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, Ohio 44145.
