Donald E. Smith, Sr.

Donald E. Smith, Sr., 91, of Monroeville passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born December 22, 1927 in Sandusky and was a lifelong resident of Monroeville. Don was employed for more than thirty years with the Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18, Cleveland. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church’s in Norwalk and Pontiac. He enjoyed the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara (Scheid) Smith; children, Donna (Ed) Kay of Monroeville, Duane Burris of Huron, Keith Burris of Norwalk, and Cheryl Downs of Monroeville; twelve grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren; one sister in law, Joanne Smith, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald E. Smith, Jr., one daughter, Gloria Roberts; his parents, Warren and Emma (Long) Smith; and six siblings.

Friends may call from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Sunday, November 3, 2019 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville and from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2019 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Rev. Ann Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Pontiac, Ohio.
