It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deacon DeLoach Walker, Jr. on November 19, 2024. DeLoach was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose compassion and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A Life Well-Lived
Born on August 11, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio to DeLoach Walker, Sr. and MaeBelle O’Banner, DeLoach was lovingly raised by Walter Jones, Jr. He excelled in athletics as a track star at John F. Kennedy High School, graduating in 1971, and went on to attend The Ohio State University, where he joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Iota Psi Chapter as a proud member of the “Slick 6” in 1973. A proud U.S. Marine, DeLoach served his country and later his community through various roles, including as a bus driver for the Cleveland Board of Education and with Provide a Ride. His life was marked by service, faith, and a commitment to uplifting others.
A Man of Faith and Family
DeLoach’s devotion to the Lord was unwavering. As a church deacon, he lived his faith through service, assisting the homeless in finding housing and spreading generosity and love wherever he went. He cherished time with his family and friends, mentoring as a softball coach and finding joy in reading and fellowship.
Forever in Our Hearts
DeLoach is survived by his loving siblings, Melvin Brinson (Sandra), Archer H. Walker, Gregory A. Walker (Jeanette), Pam Goodwin, Celeste Wallace, Marvin Jackson, Stephanie R. Jones, Walter M. Jones, and Stacey Jones-Williams (Vinton). Including a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Cleve Arnold Briggs and Melvin Walker.
DeLoach’s memory will remain a beacon of kindness and inspiration for all who knew him. He touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and unwavering dedication.
Rest in peace, Deacon Walker. You are deeply missed, but your spirit lives on in our hearts.
Visitation for family and friends will be conducted in the Ohio Veterans Home Secrest Auditorium on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 10:00 am until the time of Military Funeral Service at 10:30 am. A Code Red White Blue will be called after the ceremony to honor him as he is transferred from the auditorium to the hearse.
