Bertina "Jane" (Hand) Baker

Bertina 'Jane' Baker, 95, of Sandusky passed away peacefully early Thursday morning October 24, 2019 in The Meadows at Osborn Park, Huron.

She was born July 8, 1924 in Ashland County, Ohio and was a graduate of Savannah High School and the Mansfield Business Training School. Jane was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, Sandusky, Thunderbird Senior Ladies Golf League, and the former YMCA Senior Ladies. Her hobbies included playing cards, spending time at the Erie County Senior Center, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, and she previously enjoyed bike riding and playing golf. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to Jane. She also truly enjoyed the time spent with her friends and cherished the friendships she had acquired through the years.  She always had an interest in playing the piano and was able to entertain her friends just this past year. 

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Gebelle of Sandusky; one son, Steve (Cheryl) Baker of Bellevue; seven grandchildren, Jon (Laura) Baker, Kara (Nate) Shafer, Jenna Baker, Jacob Gebelle, Kelly Baker, Josh Gebelle, and Jordyn Baker; four great grandchildren, Emerson Baker, Abigail Shafer, Wyatt Shafer, and Aidan Baker; one brother, Alan Boynton; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Baker in 1995; her parents, Samuel and Bertha (Allen) Hand; two sisters, Bertha “Arlene” Leiter and Gertrude “Mary” Stern.

Friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Pastor Janet Chappell will officiate. Entombment will be in the Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
