Alan Miller Obituary

Alan Richard Miller, lovingly known to most simply as Al, passed away at 12:02 a.m. on January 24, 2026, leaving behind a trail of stories, laughter, and friendships that stretch far beyond any one room. He was 82 years old.

Al was born on November 3, 1943, in New Stanton, Westmoreland Co., PA, to Albert L. Miller and Dorothy M. Miller (née Loucks). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Albert “Bucky” Miller Jr., who passed away as a young child.

A proud U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran, Al served his country from 1964–1968, a chapter of his life he carried with pride and lifelong respect for his fellow service members.

Al was, in every sense of the phrase, a good-time Charlie and a friend to all. He never met a stranger, only people he hadn’t shared a drink or a joke with yet. His passions included golfing, bowling, collecting motorcycles and cars (far too many to count), going on poker runs, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and (without fail) making his daily rounds for a Miller Lite, a shot of brandy, and peel instants with his buddies at the VFW Post #1662, American Legion Post #118, Amherst Eagles Post #1442, and the Knights of Columbus, where Fridays were reserved for a walleye dinner.

He retired from Linde, but retirement didn’t slow him down, it just gave him more time for what mattered most: people.

After selling his home of 49 years in Amherst, Ohio, in December 2024, Al moved to the Sandusky Veterans Home, where he quickly did what he always did best, made new friends, and began the final leg of his journey, surrounded by camaraderie and care.

Al had a big heart and an even bigger personality, and he kept that spirit alive right up to the end, joking with nurses and staff and making sure everyone around him smiled. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the oncology staff, nurses, and hospice team at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center for their compassion, care, and kindness.

Al is survived by his daughter, Heidi Miller (Mick) of Rock Hill, SC; his son, David Miller (Tamera) of Hardin Co., KY; his granddaughter and apple of his eye, Kayla Lambert (Joshua) of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughter Stephanie Miller of Jacksonville, FL; and grandson David Miller, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force and stationed in Italy.

Per Al’s wishes, there will be no funeral or viewing. Instead, he’d much prefer that friends and family raise a glass, tell a good story, share a laugh, and remember him just as he lived, full of life and surrounded by friends.
