Wendy "Melching" Allen Obituary

Wendy Ellen “Melching” Allen of Sandusky Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday July 21, 2019, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

Wendy was born on October 29, 1945 in Sandusky Ohio to the late Betty (McDougal) and Robert Meikle.

Wendy was a 1963 graduate of Sandusky High School, a 1975 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration, and a 1986 graduate of Ashland University with a Masters in Business Administration. 

Wendy lived in Ashland, Ohio for twelve years and was employed with Sprint as a member of their internal consulting team implementing quality management approaches throughout a five-state region.   In 1998, she joined the administrative team at Fisher Titus Medical Center, retiring from the Vice President of Finance / CFO position in 2011.  Wendy was a CPA and member of the National Association of Accountants. 

Wendy was a member of Unity Spiritual Center of Westlake, Ohio.  She enjoyed many activities including boating, golfing, nature walks, yoga, biking, and lunching with the girls.  In retirement, she loved attending art classes and developed her talents in watercolor and acrylic painting. She was a member of the Firelands Area Art League.  She and her husband, Dan, enjoyed traveling in retirement visiting their children and grandchildren located in Portland Oregon, St. Louis, New York City and Boston. 

She is survived by her husband, Daniel L. Allen. whom she married on July 19, 2012; son, Scott (Jess) Melching and granddaughter Paige of Boston, MA; step-son, Damon (Di) Allen of St. Louis, MO; step-daughters, Rhea (John) Anderson of Camas, WA and Danielle Rose (Justin) Moulton of Portland, OR; step-sons, Christopher Morgan of Detroit, MI and Matthew (Amy) Morgan of Sandusky; step-daughter Victoria Morgan of Brooklyn, NY and former husband John Melching of Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James R. Meikle, and her second husband, Christopher C. Morgan. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday July 24, 2019 at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the funeral home.  Rev. Joanne Rowden of Westlake Unity Spiritual Center will officiate.  Immediately following services, guests are welcome to attend a luncheon at Legacy Center, 1522 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky.

Wendy loved nature and was disheartened by the trash along our roadsides.  She was often seen cleaning up litter at area parks or along our beaches and waterfront.   In her memory, please organize a litter clean-up party in your area.  In line with her love of nature, memorial contributions may be made to American Forests, 1220 L Street Suite 750, Washington, DC 20005 or Back to the Wild, P.
