Ray was a 17 year member of the Margaretta Township Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant.  He was also a member of the Castalia Lions Club, and Margaretta High School Band Boosters, where he served as President for 8 years.  After retirement, Ray and Susan wintered in Jet Park, Palmetto, Florida where he served as the Social Committee President for 10 years.  He was a member of the Manatee County Carvers and some of his works decorate his daughters’ Christmas trees. His biggest carving was a full size, 80lb rocking horse named Mr Wittles that his 10-year old granddaughter still enjoys! His love of traveling took him to many locales, including three weeks in Ireland, and a two-month driving trip through Alaska and the Northwest.  He and his wife visited 43 national parks, camping in many.  He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and a game of chess with his granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Susan Benner, two daughters, Jil (Bruce) Carr of Sandusky, and Nel (Greg) Santa of Alexandria, his granddaughter, Elizabeth Santa, siblings Tom, Larry and Judy Mitchell, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
