Helen Louise Keegan, 97, formerly of Clyde passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Sandusky, Ohio.
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Huron, Ohio to the late Dominic “Macioce” Majoy and Ada (Clements) Majoy-Hoilman where she was the oldest and matriarch of the twelve Majoy children.
Helen devoted her life along with her husband Gordon as the owner-operators of Keegan Farms growing and selling fruit and vegetables. They were married in Bowling Green on January 28, 1944, and then began their family of seven children soon after. She enjoyed playing cards, line dancing and trips to Florida and Las Vegas with family.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clyde, the Clyde Moose and Eagles, Sandusky Amvets, and a member with family and neighbors of a couple card clubs playing Pinochle for almost sixty years and was the last surviving member. She also played Pinochle in an all-ladies card club with her local friends. She played a season in the Erie County Dartball League on the Cold Creek team with her granddaughter and friends.
Helen ran the farm with her sons after her husband passed away in February of 1989. She became one of the original members of the Downtown Sandusky Farmers Market which she looked forward to every Saturday morning to pack and sell her produce and made many friends over the years.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Larry) Bilhardt of Huron, Cheri (Kurt) Newton of Sandusky; three sons, Terry, Mike, and Joe Keegan, all of Clyde; daughters in law, Bonnie Keegan of Castalia, and DeAnna Keegan of Clyde; nineteen grandchildren, Brian, David (Ashley), Gary (Cindy), Dan (Amy), Jason (Christa), Greg (Jame), Christopher (Mandy), Brandon (Jen), Bradley, Bobby (Miranda), Westley (Alexis), Garrett (Carly), Andrea (Jason), Samantha (Tim), Erika (Mark), Jennifer (Adam), Krystal, Leah (Jay), and Jessica (Richard); thirty two great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren; two sisters, Patty (Paul) Blodgett and Mavis (Frank) Triana; five brothers, Dan Majoy, Kenny Majoy, Tike (Agnes) Majoy, Joe (Bonnie) Majoy, and Richard (Dana) Majoy; two sisters in law, Betsy and Sally Majoy; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon C. Keegan; her parents, two sons, Robert Wayne “Bob” and Gordon Ronald “Ronnie” Keegan; three daughters in law, Paulette, Eve, and Diana Keegan; two sisters, Anna Hardy and Thelma Teague; two brothers, Wayne “Turk” and Ray Majoy; two sisters in law, Pat and Gladys Majoy; and stepfather, Uvaughn Hoilman.
Family and friends are invited to honor Helen from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Fr. Zach Brown will officiate. The burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.
