Wayne J. Knupke, 92, of Huron passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 in the Admiral’s Pointe Nursing Home.
He was born March 19, 1925 in Sandusky, the son of George and Flora (Petersen) Knupke. Wayne graduated in 1943 from Huron High School. On September 1, 1945, he married Helen Ruth Berkey at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sandusky, Ohio. Wayne farmed all of his life and operated a dairy farm with his father. He was an active member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church serving on the church council and church committees. He was also a member of the church dartball team. He served at a committee man for ASCS, a Farm Bureau member, and served as a member of the Huron Township Zoning Board. He enjoyed dinners with family and friends and playing pinochle.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Ruth Knupke; one daughter, Eileen (Charles) Jenkins of Huron; one son, Owen of Sandusky; five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Judy Knupke; one sister, Edith Sargeant; and two brothers, Elmer and Gene Knupke.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 106 Scheid Road, Sandusky from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM. Pastor Stacy Lauer-Scovanner will officiate. Entombment will be in the Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
