Charles L. “Lindy” Welton, 89, of Sandusky passed away Monday morning, May 1, 2017 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born December 16, 1927 in Elyria and was a 1945 graduate of Elyria High School. Lindy serviced in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1948. Following his discharge, he went to Ohio University and graduated in 1952. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Mr. Welton taught at Sandusky High School for 32 years where he was the head of the art department and advisor of the Fram yearbook for 19 years. He retired in 1987 and was nominated as Teacher of the Year the same year. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky.

He is survived by his wife of 62 1/2 years, the former, Joan Ruth; two daughters, Linda (Frank) Springer of South Bend, Indiana, Jackie (James) Fantozz of Sandusky; one grandson, Brad Stossel of Findley and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lillian (Beese) Welton; one brother, Earl; three sisters, Emily, Gladys and Florence.

At the request of the deceased cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky. Rev. Douglas Winner will officiate. Committal services for the family will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
