Charles N. “Chuck” Teagarden, 61, of Sandusky passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2017 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born June 20, 1955 in Wheeling, WV and was a 1973 graduate of McGuffey High School in Claysville, PA. In 1978, he graduated from Kent State University and had earned his Master’s Degree from Ashland University. Chuck was employed as a teacher in the Perkins Public Schools for 35 years, retiring in 2014. He served as the high school wrestling coach from 1981-1988. He helped start the Pirate Biddy Wresting Program where he has stayed active over the years. Chuck also became a wrestling official after his coaching years.
He was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Sandusky and has been attending St. Stephen United Church of Christ, Sandusky for the past few years. Chuck was also a member of the Sandusky Elks, Lodge 285, AMVETS Post 17, and the Sandusky Orioles Club. His hobbies included, deer hunting, fishing, and rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Susan K. Poggiali; two daughters, Rebecca (Ryan) Teagarden Mills of Akron, Meridith Teagarden of Columbus; one granddaughter, Genevieve Mills; five siblings, Tom (Jenny) Teagarden of Washington, PA, Teryl (Philip) Clutter of West Findlay, PA, Douglas (Chris) Teagarden of West Alexander, PA, Robin (Ed) Smith of Washington, PA, and Chad (Bobbie Jo) Teagarden of West Alexander, PA; brothers and sisters in law, Dan (Elizabeth) Poggiali, Stephen (Deborah) Poggiali, Brian (Sally) Poggiali, Beth (Bradford) Wimmer all of Sandusky, and Ann (Douglas) Metz of Worthington, Ohio nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Patty (Riggs) Teagarden; his grandparents; and his father and mother in law, Richard and Marilyn (McGory) Poggiali.
Friends may call Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. The Rev. Jerald A. Fenske will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
